DoorDash’s mission has always been to empower local communities. While the world has certainly changed over the past decade, our unwavering commitment to that mission has remained the same.
We exist to connect people with the best of their neighborhood, and the neighborhood for many Black communities provides a sense of belonging. The neighborhood offers an opportunity to garner wealth, but also serves as a space to celebrate Black culture in a unique and authentic way. Simply put, when we empower and support Black-owned merchants and build pathways for the Black gig economy, it elevates the neighborhood. And that’s how we came to our theme for AfroTech — Build Black. Elevate the Neighborhood.
This will serve as our platform during AfroTech from November 13-17 in Austin, Texas, where we’ll spotlight our community of Black employees, but also the Black merchants & dashers on our platform, along with our Black brand partners & ambassadors.

As part of our ongoing efforts to Make Room at the Table, we’re thrilled to curate an engaging conversation between Imani Grant, our General Manager — Southeast, Strategy & Operations, and NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace on how to INFLUENCE and OWN your career.
In this workshop, Bubba will speak from first-hand experience on being the first, only, or different, detailing how he’s shifted from surviving to thriving in an authentically Bubba Wallace way. As someone who understands the stress that comes with the first and only as the first and only Black NASCAR driver, Bubba will share how talent can shift from feeling different and feeling the pressure of not feeling safe, seen, heard, or valued, to shifting your mindset, building great relationships, and gaining the support needed to reach the top of the mountain.
Wallace partnered with DoorDash in 2020, aligning with the same values around unity, openness, and a desire to help communities in need.
On Monday, November 14, at the Learning Lab stage in Ballroom G from 12:30-1:30 p.m., hear from Bubba to learn how he's worked to empower his own career, and how to kick down the door and create a seat at the table.
